Laser Welding Health Risks and Protective Measures Behind High Efficiency

Laser welding machines are widely used in the metal processing industry. As a common piece of equipment for laser material processing, laser welding machine primarily works by using a laser beam to heat and melt the metal, which then cools and solidifies. During laser welding machine operations, sparks are often produced, and the process inherently involves lasers. But are these harmful to the human body?

A laser is light emitted by stimulated atoms and possesses properties such as high directionality, high brightness, high monochromaticity, and high coherence. Compared to ordinary light, laser light is brighter, more precise, and has a more singular color. Typically, we do not come into contact with or see the laser itself, so it can be considered almost harmless. However, it is important to note that the laser beam has an extremely high temperature, so never point the laser beam at any part of the human body.

When using a laser welding machine, the following points should be noted to ensure safety:

  • Maintain Ventilation: Ensure good ventilation in the workplace to reduce the inhalation of dust and metal particles.
  • Wear a Mask: It is recommended to wear a dust mask during operation to protect the respiratory system.
  • Stay Away from the Welding Area: Try to stay away from the welding area as much as possible. Although the radiation hazard from the laser source of the laser welding machine is minimal, the welding process can lead to two other types of radiation: ionizing radiation and stimulated radiation. This induced radiation may contain short waves, which can have a significant impact on the eyes and body. Therefore, it is best to avoid direct exposure to the light source.
  • Professional Protection: If you need to work in close proximity to the laser welding operation, it is best to wear respiratory protection, radiation protective clothing, and professional laser safety glasses to maximize your protection.

In conclusion, while laser welding technology is widely used, safety protection must be emphasized during operation, and necessary measures must be taken to protect one’s health.
